Our Mission
The Iskweu Project seeks to reduce and ultimately eradicate the number of MMIWG2S+ cases in Quebec. By providing direct support to families, survivors, and individuals at risk, we aim to break systemic barriers, advocate for justice, and ensure culturally informed responses from institutions.
What is the MMIWG2S+ Crisis?
The crisis of violence against Indigenous women, girls, trans, and 2-Spirit people is deeply rooted in Canada’s colonial history. It reflects systemic neglect, discrimination, and the ongoing trauma experienced by Indigenous communities.
Through our work, we’ve identified vulnerabilities that increase the risk of MMIWG2S+, including:
Housing insecurity
Addiction and mental health challenges
Involvement in the sex trade
Experiences of violence
